Hello Ottawa friends – I had a local reporter reach out to me today to ask if I’d like to make a statement regarding the recent violence on another community of faith that took place yesterday.
And while I did respond…the truth is, that sometimes in situations like these, there are never adequate words in our human vocabulary to speak in a way that even begins to address the horrific act. Each of us were created in the image of God. And as such, we bear the image of God. When a violent act is committed on an image bearer of Christ, it should grieve each of us and it certainly grieves God. If you are a believer in Christ, you already know that you have an Advocate that will speak on your behalf. Romans 8: 26-27, “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.”
Another way to deal with grief or anxiety is to play worship songs…and if you can, sing them. Somehow, singing or humming or “tapping along” to our Creator, does wonders for our souls.
I’ll post just a couple of songs I’ve personally used in my quiet time in the comments below.
Prayers tonight for many who may feel heavy lately.
