MEET YOUR CANDIDATE
Allison Miedema is a mom and wife and has been a resident of Ottawa County since childhood. With a Master’s degree in Early Childhood, Allison taught preschool for 21 years in both the public and private schools. Using her expertise in child development, she has worked alongside hundreds of families to advocate on their behalf.
Allison became involved in grassroots politics when she noticed the rights of parents and children, as well as those of everyday American citizens, were being neglected, abused, and overstepped by the government in response to Covid-19. Due to the government overreach in schools, which violated her own personal conscience and religious convictions, she resigned her much loved position as a teacher in August 2021.
Since taking office as a county commissioner, Allison has stood firm on the promises she made during her campaign in 2022 and has again signed the Contract with Ottawa as a means of ongoing accountability for her next term.
Amidst the raging battle for the soul of America, Allison recognizes that Ottawa County is pivotal to our state and that our state matters to this nation. If we want to protect all we hold dear on behalf of this generation and the generations to come, it is paramount that everyday citizens in our beautiful conservative county use their voices to speak at the local level.
Since taking office, Allison:
- Voted to end the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Department (that promoted divisive ideology focused on characteristics such as gender and gender identity, skin color, sexual preference, and religious beliefs) and to return county operations to focus on character, excellence, and merit, saving the county $286,000 per year
- Voted to pass the following Resolutions:
- Constitutional County Resolution
- Resolution to Protect Childhood Innocence
- Adoption Day Resolution
- Resolution Opposing State Control of Solar Siting
- Heroes of Freedom Resolution
- Resolution on Childhood Vaccine Waivers for School and Childcare
- Resolution to Promote Life
- Autism Awareness Month Resolution
- Voted to hire Kallman Legal Group, one of the best constitutional law firms in Michigan, who helps to protect and defend our liberties and works tirelessly against the continuous attacks against the good people of Ottawa County
- Voted to expand the Department of Veteran Affairs, recognizing that veterans within our county have the highest rate of suicide and that many citizens desire to continue building on the efforts to care for our veterans and families who have given so much
- Voted against grants that came with harmful strings attached (click here to read one example)
- Within the 5-year Capital Improvement plan, voted to prioritize ADA compliance needs throughout the county and approve funding for body cameras for the Sheriff’s Department
- Voted to increase pay for employees of the Sheriff’s Department, helping to attract and retain high quality law enforcement personnel
- Received a AAA bond rating in 2024
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
- Talent and Recruitment Committee Chair, which interviews dozens of applicants for a variety of volunteer seats on boards and committees
- Planning and Policy Committee Vice Chair
- Ottawa County Parks and Foundation Board Member
- Ottawa County Parks Strategic Planning Committee Member

Allison believes the church is a vital pillar to our community, and she and her family are an active part of Second Church of Allendale. Prior to running for office, Allison enjoyed serving as a Ladies Bible Study leader, teaching in Sunday School, leading Youth Group, participating as a Kids Hope USA mentor, and serving on the pastor search team from 2019-2021. Allison continues to seek wisdom and ask for accountability from her church pastoral team while serving in the role of an elected official.
