This past Monday evening, I attended another Blendon Township Board meeting, as the big focus of discussion and concern amongst Blendon Township residents has an opportunity to make its way to other parts of our county. These decisions and outcomes can potentially have reciprocal effects.

As shared (in part) by fellow Sylvia Rhodea for Ottawa County Commissioner, “Blendon Township residents, and a few of their Allendale neighbors, gathered at Blendon Township on Monday night to express their thoughts and concerns about the BESS project proposed for Blendon Township. Residents were passionate about their concerns with the proposed battery (energy) storage facility, which they shared over several hours of public comment.
Local control matters. Democrats in Lansing have made it increasingly difficult for local units of government to have full decision making authority on these issues, creating loopholes for bureaucrats to override the will of communities on the left’s energy priorities. We need local officials to listen and advocate for their people, both in local decisions, and then in follow up with the state.
In a county meeting that I attended on these issues, it was shared that the project is designed to benefit the energy demands of the urban centers of Detroit and Chicago. Local communities bear the risk; big cities get the benefit.”
Also in attendance Monday evening was Blendon Township’s County Commissioner – Joe Moss. He stated, “What a beautiful opportunity to stand up for your constituents and have them back you no matter the outcome. Please fight for the people that have put you in these seats just for such a time as this.”
Blendon Township – great job getting involved in your public square, using your voices in respectful ways. The more eyes on a variety of issues that a community faces, the stronger we are together.
