Over this past year, I had an opportunity to study alongside my teen son the early years leading up to our nation’s founding.
It made me more appreciative of the sacrifices given by everyday people in order to provide opportunities to own our own land, build homes, make a living of our own choosing, defend ourselves, have freedom of worship, the right to free speech, etc.
Many of our freedoms have been challenged over America’s history, including within the past few years, and yet our constitutional republic has by the grace of God held over almost 250 years.
I have had the wonderful privilege of getting to meet some heroes of liberty, from the local level to the national level. Some of the characteristics I have enjoyed observing are:
* optimism
* hard working
* selflessness
* courage
* a never done learning philosophy
* high level of character
* perseverance
* enjoys the simple things and simultaneously the profound things of life
* deep love for what God loves
